Ethnology

The Museum of the Republic of Srpska, through its permanent ethnological exhibition, presents the rich cultural heritage of the population from the area of present-day Republic of Srpska, with a focus on traditional ways of life, old crafts, clothing, and the architectural design of residential buildings.

Traditional Costumes

A special segment of the exhibition is dedicated to traditional costumes, which reflect the diversity of material culture and the identity of the people. On display are traditional garments from rural areas of Bosnia, as well as elegant urban attire typical of Serbian bourgeois families from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their craftsmanship, details, and fabrics represent a valuable resource for studying social relations and aesthetic values of that period.

Households

The exhibition includes a reconstruction of a rural household from the Manjača region, as well as the interior of an urban house in Banja Luka, offering visitors a chance to compare rural and urban lifestyles. Each space is furnished with authentic objects, providing a deeper understanding of everyday life in that era.

Jewelry

The exhibition also features a selection from the collection of traditional jewelry—ornaments that served not only aesthetic purposes but often carried symbolic and protective significance within tradition.

Crafts

Of course, an essential part of the display are old crafts such as blacksmithing, pottery, and furriery, which for centuries formed the foundation of the local economy and cultural identity. Tools, products, and scenes of work are exhibited, testifying to the skill, creativity, and importance of these trades.
